Members of the CARE Team

St. Thomas is dedicated to supporting students' physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing. The CARE Team provides one-on-one help to students.

The CARE Team consists of representatives from multiple departments. Our purpose is to make a concerted effort to aid students within the St. Thomas community and determine how to effectively support their retention and success within the university.

To refer a student to the CARE Team call, email, or walk-in:

You can expect a response within 24 hours of the next business day. You can refer any student at St. Thomas. (DFC students can be referred to .)

You can also contact individual members of the CARE Team listed below. Core CARE Team members participate in weekly meetings, while additional team members join meetings as needed.

    We are the hub for student advocacy and problem-solving, whether in the classroom, on campus, or off campus; we are here to cultivate the retention, growth and success of our students.

    Things we can assist with:

    • navigating any aspect of the University
    • working through concerns with a professor or supervisor
    • student conduct or behavior issues
    • handling housing issues
    • addressing food insecurity

    Academic Counseling

    Contact information:

    We provide professional academic counselors on a walk-in or appointment basis to listen to your concerns, and assist you in strategizing ways to address your particular academic issue(s).

    Things we can assist with:

    • needing help discerning a major
    • graduation degree planning
    • developing the skills necessary for success in the classroom
    • time management, test preparation, note taking, and college reading strategies
    • tutoring for specific subjects
    • any academic issue

    Center for Well-Being

    Contact information:

    We provide integrated care for physical, mental, and emotional health, along with health promotion, resilience, and violence prevention.

    Things we can assist with:

    • primary medical care (including psychiatric and urgent care)
    • counseling and interventions (for individuals and groups, crisis and ongoing)
    • problems with eating, sleeping, or alcohol
    • depression, lethargy, or panic attacks
    • behavioral health counseling
    • sports physicals

    Disability Resources

    Our mission is to make reasonable effort to provide all qualified students with disabilities equal access to all university courses, services, programs, employment and facilities.

    Accommodations and services that we provide:

    • accommodations including but not limited to extended time to complete exams, distraction reduced space to complete exams, note taking software and support, audio texts, assistive technology
    • pre-screening for Attention Deficit Disorder and learning disabilities
    • accessing additional campus resources
    • time management and organization support
    • assistance in communicating with faculty

    We operate 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, on both the St. Paul and Minneapolis campuses, and focus on the care and safety of the students, employees, and guests of the University.

    • parking and shuttle services
    • escort services within a 6-block radius of campus

    We aim to provide a space for all residential students that is inclusive, welcoming, and supportive.

    Things we can assist with:

    • Meeting with a student leader or staff member who lives in your community
    • Getting connected to your living community and campus community
    • Challenges you may be encountering on campus, particularly within the residence halls
    • Inquiring about a housing “Medical/Disability Accommodation Request”
    • Questions about the Residence Halls (types, single-user and community bathrooms, community space, amenities, access, etc.)
