Academic Calendars
The St. Thomas Undergraduate academic calendar is a variation of the semester system with a January term (J-term) between the fall and spring semesters - often called the 4-1-4 calendar. We also have a summer term. In general, the academic sessions run:
- Fall semester = September - December (16 weeks)
- J-term = January (4 weeks)
- Spring semester = February - May (15 weeks)
- Summer = June - August (6, 8 and 12 weeks)
Note that the start and end dates of each term vary based on the calendar year.
Both the J-term and Summer sessions are optional for full-time students. We recommend students take a single course or study abroad if they participate in J-term or Summer sessions.
