On-Campus Employment Assistance
On-Campus employment is a great opportunity for students to get involved on campus, meet new people and learn new skills.
Employment Details
Who is Eligible
All valid F-1 or J-1 students enrolled and in full-time status at St. Thomas are eligible for on-campus employment. New students must have already checked in with OISS after arriving at St. Thomas.
J-1 students must receive employment authorization in advance through OISS by submitting the in OneStThomas.
Summer Employment
St. Thomas students are eligible for summer student employment positions if they meet one of the following categories:
- Incoming students (eligible to work 30 days prior to I-20/DS-2019 start date)
- Current St. Thomas students
- Graduating students with OPT or Academic Training work authorization hired for St. Thomas staff positions directly related to their degree program
Hours Per Week
F-1 and J-1 students can work on-campus for a maximum of 20 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters.
During the summer and semester breaks (Winter Break, January Term and Spring Break), students may work up to 40 hours per week.

Finding a Job on Campus
- Visit the Career Development Center if you’d like assistance updating your resume and cover letter.
- Browse the St. Thomas Employment Opportunities website and apply online.
- When you are hired you will receive information from Human Resources with steps that must be completed before starting the job. You will also need to request a (Intranet) from OISS.
- Ask your supervisor to sign your Social Security Verification Letter, then visit a Social Security Administration office.
