About Marta Pereira

Marta is originally from Costa Rica where she started her theological, ministry, and spiritual formation as part of the Congregation of Carmelite Missionaries. She served the Church in different parish capacities both in Costa Rica and in Puerto Rico, where she lived for several years as part of her missionary work.

Her journey at St. Thomas started as an international student and a Latino Leadership Program undergraduate with majors in theology and Catholic studies. She holds a master's degree in theology from the St. Paul Seminary School of Divinity, a graduate certificate in pastoral ministry from St. Catherine University, and a doctorate in education with a concentration in leadership. Her doctoral dissertation explored the role of campus ministry and mission integration in Catholic higher education.

Before her time at St Thomas, Marta worked for Latino ministries at the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis and as a campus minister for spirituality and retreats at St. Catherine University. She has also worked as an adjunct professor for the St Thomas Pastoral Ministry Spanish Certificate since 2015.

In addition to her associate director role, Marta leads the retreat program, spiritual and formation programs as well as the multicultural programs for students.

Marta is married to her husband Tim and has four children. She enjoys gardening, reading, the company of friends and long walks with her dog.
