Apply for Federal Financial Aid (FAFSA)

The FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Information from the FAFSA is used to determine whether you meet the eligibility criteria for federal (and some state) financial aid. Information from the FAFSA is matched against records with the Social Security Administration, the Department of Homeland Security, and the National Student Loan Database.

Summer term is always the last term of the Â鶹´«Ã½ academic year for financial aid:

  • The 2023-24 FAFSA is used for the fall 2023 through summer 2024 academic year.
  • The 2024-25 FAFSA is used for the fall 2024 through summer 2025 academic year.

Eligibility

In order to be considered for federal financial aid, you must meet the following general eligibility criteria:

  • Be a U.S. Citizen, Permanent Resident or other category of eligible non-citizen.
  • Not be in default on a prior Federal Education Loan or owe a refund of a prior federal grant.
  • Be admitted and enrolled as a regular degree-seeking student. All courses you enroll in must be required for the degree.
  • Be enrolled at least half-time.
  • Be meeting the Satisfactory Academic Progress standards.

Certificate-only and some licensure students are not eligible for federal financial aid at the Â鶹´«Ã½; however, may apply for private educational loans (no FAFSA required).

Recommended Filing Dates

You do not have to wait until you’re admitted to complete the FAFSA and apply for financial aid. However, communication regarding financial aid will not be sent until after you are admitted into a degree seeking program. Applications received after the recommended date will continue to be reviewed. Students are responsible for finance charges incurred as a result of past-due balance with the Business Office.
