Public health at the Â鶹´«Ã½ challenges students to find solutions for improved preventative care for larger populations rather than individual care for one person. You will confront complex health issues, social inequality and health disparities in the community in order to make positive change.

Scholarships
We offer the Bridget A. Duoos Endowed Research Fund Scholarship to students each year, sponsoring faculty-mentored research and travel funds for other student research. Dr. Duoos was a St. Thomas professor from 1995 to 2016 and chair of the Health and Exercise Science Department. She was a highly productive scholar, making significant contributions to the discipline, as well as a dedicated advocate to student academic success.

Dr. Amy Hedman-Robertson
Amy Hedman-Robertson pairs students in her program planning course with community health organizations and agencies to conduct a needs assessment. Students learn about the agency’s programs, identify client needs and interests, and help determine how to improve or expand current programs. They also learn about health-related topics and challenges within the community.
Alexandra DeMarais
Alexandra started working with nursing students at a local college when she graduated from St. Thomas. She recently completed courses to apply to an occupational therapy program, and has shadowed and volunteered with disadvantaged populations for hundreds of hours along the way. Her degree allowed her to explore many different fields and find her passion throughout the journey.
Elena Hicks
Elena interned with the Federal Relations and Advocacy Strategic Alliance for American Cancer Society’s in Washington, D.C. She focused on federal government appropriations for the National Institute of Health, the National Cancer Institute and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Dr. Olufunmilayo "Funmi" Knutson completed her PhD in epidemiology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's Gillings School of Global Public Health.

Dr. Hedman-Robertson earned her PhD in health education at the University of Kansas, Lawrence, KS.
