Our students go on to work as news reporters, television producers, photographers, videographers, web content producers, social media content creators and more.

Solveig Rennan graduated from the Â鶹´«Ã½ in 2019. In her last semester of college, she worked as an intern for the Under-Told Stories Project and traveled to South Africa with the reporting team. After graduation, she was hired to the Under-Told Stories team as a production assistant and worked there for three years. In 2022, she was hired as an associate producer at PBS NewsHour in Washington, D.C.
Austin Lindberg graduated from St. Thomas in 2008 with a major in print journalism. After receiving his master’s in international journalism from City University London (inspired by a St. Thomas study abroad program) and two years at Car and Driver magazine, he’s been an editor at ESPN since 2014, with a focus on soccer.
Jeremy won a Pulitzer Prize in 2013 for a series he wrote for the Minneapolis Star Tribune about an increase of infant deaths at poorly regulated in-home daycare centers. Jeremy was the editor of The Aquin, the forerunner of TommieMedia, while he was studying at St. Thomas.
Art also won a Pulitzer Prize in 2017 for his editorial writing at the Storm Lake Times. Throughout 2016, Art wrote a series of ten editorial articles that accused drainage districts in three counties of funneling high levels of nitrates into the Raccoon River, and how these agricultural groups secretly funded the counties’ legal defense against a lawsuit filed by the Des Moines Water Works.
We award scholarships for incoming first-year students, as well as current students with a declared major in either journalism, digital media arts or strategic communication.
This $2,000 scholarship is for incoming first-year students who plan to major in journalism, digital media arts or strategic communication at St. Thomas. We award this based on their commitment to community service and career-related activities, academic merit and the promise of success in a communication career.
Application Deadline: March 6, 2025
The university awards one renewable, full-tuition scholarship each year to a first-year student who completed a ThreeSixty Journalism summer camp and intends to study journalism. Candidates who will contribute diversity to St. Thomas and the department are given preference as well.
These scholarships are for current majors in journalism, digital media arts or strategic communication. These scholarships typically range from $600 to $3,000.

The year JOUR 480 – Media Ethics began. It is the second-oldest required ethics course in the nation.

Greg is a former television reporter for KARE-11 in the Twin Cities and teaches a course on multimedia reporting.
Dr. Feng has expertise in media ethics theory, journalism norms and practices, Confucian ethics, moral theories and qualitative research methods.

TommieMedia is a student-run web-based news organization aimed to deliver campus, local and world news to the community. Among many other awards and accolades TommieMedia has received, it recently won an Online Pacemaker Award from the Associate College Press.
