Josh Layfield, Assistant Professor
The discovery of nylon in the 1930s led to everything from synthetic, no-iron shirts to space suits. "Like nylon, 25 percent of all chemicals that come to market have a two-phased reaction at some point in their synthesis," Assistant Professor Josh Layfield said. He leads St. Thomas student chemists in studying liquid reactions that reorganize molecules. Experiments like these in the St. Thomas chemistry lab are the seeds of invention.
