University Policies

The following St. Thomas policies may be of interest to you if you are traveling abroad for university business.

Travel Risk Advisory Committee

St. Thomas uses U.S. State Department Travel Advisories as a guideline in determining whether an international university-sponsored program will take place. The Travel Risk Advisory Committee (TRAC) is responsible for reviewing travel proposals and making recommendations for final review and decision-making.

International Travel Registration

The Â鶹´«Ã½ operates university-sponsored travel in compliance with our travel policy. As per the policy, all university-sponsored international travel must be registered to ensure travelers' health and safety and to manage the liability of the University.

Best Practices for International Travel

St. Thomas is committed to helping ensure the health and safety of travelers. Global Learning & Strategy will serve as the liaison with departments sponsoring international travel regarding these health and safety policies. Below you will also find a listing of university policies that apply to all Off-Campus Travel with Students:

  • Health and Safety Abroad
    Participants can be provided with written information on travel safety from the Office of Study Abroad upon request. General health information can be provided as well as any specific information for a given country/destination. St. Thomas Student Health Services is a certified travel clinic and should be consulted prior to any/all travel abroad.
  • Cultural and Travel Orientation Materials
    Students are encouraged to explore the cultural norms of their host country. The Office of Study Abroad can provide informational materials upon request.
  • Student Disciplinary Rights and Procedures
    This policy of the Dean of Students office outlines the process faculty or staff follow in determining the appropriate action for inappropriate student behavior abroad.
